Gary Fisher/Subaru Team commit to All 29ers
05/02/2010
The Gary Fisher/Subaru team have announced that they will be competing exclusively on 29ers for the 2010 season, following a 2009 season that saw some team members switching between 29” and 26” wheeled bikes.
However, after Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski won the US National Marathon Champs on a SuperFly 100, and Heather Irmiger won the Womens National Marathon Champs on a SuperFly hardtail, and after they both won the National XC Champs on SuperFly hardtails, and after Willow Koerber podiumed at all three races she raced a 29er at, including at the World Championships, they have decided to ditch the little wheels and go full-time on the 29ers.
A recent article on Singletrack.com that you can read here, has more details including this quote from Koerber, “It used to be that the equipment options, wheels in particular, for the 29er were heavier and therefore presented an obstacle when choosing a bike for a course,” she said. “The technology and geometry of the 29er has improved so much that, in my opinion, it is better than a 26-inch bike on every course — steep, technical, flat, dry.”
